There is still no news on the Parish Council campaign to secure at least one permanent SID for our village. I have been given some interesting figures regarding surveys by the speedwatch team relating to April and May in 30 mph zones on various roads in Lyndhurst. Letters were only sent out to drivers who exceeded the limits at 35 mph or more (in a 30 mph zone) which are the guidelines that the Police use.

A total of 1814 vehicles were checked and of those, 49.2% (893) were exceeding 30 mph but 7.8% (142) were exceeding 35 mph or more and the owners were sent letters. Of these 142
Of these 142 motorists, 21 were recorded travelling at speeds of 40 mph or more and the highest recorded speed was 49 mph.
Councillors Angela Trend and George Bisson visited Minstead Parish Council’s meeting in June to explain the problems being increasingly faced in Emery Down regarding traffic and will now be working with two members of that Council to try to find some common ground for a solution which can be taken forward to the relevant authorities.
Part of Emery Down lies within our parish and part is in the parish of Minstead. However, most of the problems seem to emanate when traffic leaves the A31 following a road traffic accident and seeks alternative routes to avoid the holdups.
Since I wrote my last Clerk’s Corner I have resigned from the Parish Council.
I will write another article for What’s On next month but will attend my last Parish Council meeting on 12 July as we do not meet in August.
I have enjoyed most of my time as your Clerk, particularly being able to help all of you whenever possible but have found meetings for the last year or so increasingly tedious and feel that the time is now right for me to go.
Being a Parish Council Clerk, as any of us lucky enough to find ourselves in such employment will know, is never the part-time job we are paid to do so I will find it very strange at first to have some free time.
However, I am sure I will dabble in other things and will soon fill the hours – getting a bit fitter and not spending so much time hovering over the computer is something to look forward to and so is spending more time with my three ponies and two dogs – oh yes, and Mike and I will also be able to have some time away.

I wrote last month that Councillor Adrian Wiltshire and I were hoping to secure a grant to provide electricity in the Cemetery Chapel.
We met the representative from Viridor on site and although he seemed favourably impressed with the scheme we had to wait a further couple of weeks for the letter to arrive telling us we had secured a grant of £28,500 towards the cost of the work.
Grateful thanks also go to Ineos, County Councillor Keith Mans, Lyndhurst Welfare Charities and a private anonymous individual. We now have enough money to put the scheme in place.
On Saturday 11 June we held Paws in the Park, a fairly small dog show. There were over 100 entries although, to be honest, we could have done with more.
Unfortunately, there was a lot going on around the area that day so if we hold the event again, in whatever form, that does need to be taken into consideration.
I would like to say a very big thank you to Doreen and Bob Rollé, who judged the event and donated two cups, special thanks to Andy Elliott at Midforest Vets for coming along and sponsoring the rosettes, certificates and prizes.
Sarah Penfold from Infinity Photography for taking some lovely photographs, Lisa Knight, Karl Kaljura and Mark Rollé for hot food, Julie Mair and Andy Chatwin for delicious cakes and hot drinks, plus first aid and PA equipment, Jon Cuthill for magnificently comparing the whole event and Terena Plowright for the arena show which involved her Collie dog Sweep skillfully herding some geese.
Ashurst and Colbury Parish Councillor Sally Arnold and her husband Roy also joined us to give expert assistance with the entries, etc. Thanks also to Joanne Rollé and her sister Sarah Baynton who gave help with a smile on the day.
I also forgot to mention that, under my expert guidance (yes I am joking) Kramer Pascoe, Tristan Pascoe’s beautiful dog, won the biscuit catching competition. When I say beautiful that was left somewhat to the imagination on the day as Tristan had gone rather overboard with giving Kramer a “trim” resulting in some bald patches. However, it didn’t seem to impede his biscuit catching skills.
Our next Parish Council meeting will be held on Tuesday 12 July at 7.15 pm at Lyndhurst Community Centre. Why not come along. There is an opportunity for members of the public to air their views at the commencement of the meeting.
